Directorate

PHI UK is coordinated by a small team based at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge

Directorate role

The directorate works to:

  • facilitate and support inclusive collaboration across the research consortia and wider community engaged in research relevant to population health improvement

  • share learning and information, and support capacity building within the network

  • ensure effective coordination and collaboration between PHI UK and other parts of the population health research landscape

  • coordinate PHI UK network level communication, engagement and impact activities, including managing this website and social media feeds

  • manage the governance processes of PHI UK and lead on reporting and assurance

  • provide scientific and financial management of the collaboration and innovation fund.

Directorate Members

Network Director - Prof Nick Wareham

The Director’s role is to guide the development and delivery of PHI UK, working with the leaders of research consortia and wider collaborators to ensure that we meet our strategic objectives.

Nick is a Clinical Academic specialising in epidemiology and public health and leads a research programme into the causes and prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes. He is Director of the MRC Epidemiology Unit and Co-Director of Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge.

Strategic Project Manager - Dr Aisling Redmond

Aisling works with the network Director and consortia leaders to support the planning, delivery and monitoring and of PHI UK’s objectives.

Aisling is also Project Management Lead at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge, where she provides project management leadership and support for large scale, complex and strategic Unit projects. Aisling has a background in cancer research, research and project management, governance and clinical study management. Aisling has completed a PRINCE2 Foundation Project Management course.

Communications & Impact Manager - Oliver Francis

Oliver works with the PHI UK network to engage with stakeholders, deliver communications activities and resources, and support the translation of our evidence into impactful solutions to improve health.

As well as his role for Population Health Improvement UK, Oliver is Head of Strategic Communications at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge. He has worked in the research sector, the NHS, as well as in television documentary and feature film development, and as a freelance writer.

Administration - Hannah Dingwall

Hannah provides administrative support to the Directorate as well as assisting with research monitoring and publications management.

Hannah is an expert in research information management, including open access publication. She has completed an Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship and prior to working at Cambridge University, Hannah worked in support roles for a range of industries.
