First Lunchtime Webinar: What Makes a ‘Good’ Policy Simulation Model?

Dr Lisa Garnham University of Strathclyde

🗓 Thursday 23 October 2025
🕛 12 noon | ⏱ 30–40 mins

Simulation models are increasingly used in policymaking — but which can we trust, and what makes one ‘good’?

In this session, Dr Lisa Garnham University of Strathclyde and Research Fellow in our Appraising Policy Models Work Package, introduces the Quality-Relevance Criteria for Policy Models. Drawing on findings from a systematic review of 26 academic and policy papers. She will outline eleven clear, evidence-based recommendations to provide guidance on what makes a policy model "good" - and how to build or evaluate one effectively.

Whether you’re a policymaker, researcher, or practitioner interested in better decision-making through simulation, this session will equip you with valuable knowledge and tools to appraise models with confidence.
